Most installed fences cost $20 to $60 per linear foot in 2026 on national figures, or $3,000 to $9,000 for a 150-foot yard. We do not publish an Akron price list, because two yards on the same street can price very differently. Length, height, material, the number of gates, the slope and what has to come out first all go into the quote.
The prices on this page are national ranges published by HomeGuide for 2026. They are not quotes from The Akron Fence Company. What a fence costs in Summit County depends on local labor and material prices and on your own yard. Last checked October 2026.
How much does a fence cost per foot?
| Material | Installed cost per foot |
|---|---|
| Chain link | $9 to $30 |
| Wood | $20 to $50 |
| Vinyl | $30 to $60 |
| Aluminum | $25 to $75 |
| Wrought iron | $50 to $85 |
How much does a 6-foot wood privacy fence cost?
HomeGuide puts a 6-foot privacy fence at $25 to $60 per foot installed. The totals below use the general $20 to $60 range. A tall, solid fence uses more lumber and heavier posts than a low open one, so expect the upper half of each row.
| Fence length | Typical installed cost |
|---|---|
| 50 feet | $1,000 to $3,000 |
| 100 feet | $2,000 to $6,000 |
| 150 feet | $3,000 to $9,000 |
| 200 feet | $4,000 to $12,000 |
What is the cheapest fence to have installed?
Chain link, which starts around $9 per foot on the national figures. If you need privacy for the least money, a dog-ear fence in pressure-treated pine is normally the lowest-priced solid fence. If the goal is keeping a large dog in the yard on a budget, 5 or 6 foot chain link in the back yard does it. Check the town first: Cuyahoga Falls, for example, caps chain link at 4 feet in house districts and keeps it out of front yards.
Is black aluminum cheaper than wrought iron or vinyl?
Aluminum is cheaper than wrought iron, at $25 to $75 per foot against $50 to $85. Vinyl sits in between at $30 to $60, so aluminum and vinyl overlap. Beside a salted Akron driveway, aluminum has the edge on upkeep because it does not rust.
How much extra does a gate cost?
A gate is quoted as its own item. Its price depends on the width, the material, the hinges and the latch. A single walk gate is the smallest add. A double drive gate needs bigger posts and footings, and an opener adds again. On a driveway that climbs from the street, the gate may need special hanging or a sliding design, which we price after seeing it.
How much extra for a slope, brush or an old fence?
It varies too much to state without a visit. In Akron the common extras are grade, since so many yards fall toward a street or a ravine, removal of an old chain link fence with its concrete plugs, clearing grapevine and saplings off a back line, and cobbles in the glacial soil that slow the digging. Each one appears as a line on the quote so you can see what it costs.
I got three quotes and they are far apart. Which one is realistic?
Usually the one that spells out the most. Put them side by side and compare the footage, the height, the material grade, the post size, the post depth, the gates, the tear-out, the haul-away and how the slope is handled. Post depth and slope are where low quotes save money here. A fence on shallow posts, stepped down a hill with open gaps, is a cheaper product than one set below frost and fitted to the grade.
Does a fence add value to my home?
It helps a sale more than it raises the price. Buyers with children or a dog look for a fenced yard, and a sound fence is one less thing for them to budget. Do not expect to get the full cost back. As for property taxes, the county sets property values, and a fence is a small item next to the house and land.
