Fence Repair in Akron, OH

We repair wood, vinyl, chain link and metal fences in Akron and nearby towns. Text us a photo and we can usually tell you if it is a repair or a new section.

Most fence repairs we see in Akron start below ground. Frost works on a shallow footing every winter, lifting it a fraction and letting soil slip underneath, and after a few seasons the post leans downhill. On a sloped yard the lean is quicker, because the soil itself creeps. We dig out the failed post with its concrete and reset it below frost depth.

The rest is wear and weather: wood posts rotted at the soil line, rails pulled loose, a section flattened by a limb in a summer storm or a heavy wet snow, chain link pushed out at the bottom by a dog, a gate that drags. We repair wood, vinyl, chain link and metal fences, and where the material is still made we match it.

Before pricing, we check the posts on each side of the damage, because one bad post is seldom alone. If a repair will not hold, or costs close to half of a new section, we say so. Text photos to (330) 521-3641 and we can usually tell you what you are looking at.

Fence repair in Akron: common questions

Do I need a permit to repair a fence in Akron?

The city's Plans and Permits page says a fence of 7 feet or less does not need a permit, so an ordinary repair does not either. Placement rules still apply if a fence near the street is being rebuilt. Other towns differ: Norton, for one, requires a permit to erect any fence. We check before starting.

Can a leaning fence be straightened without replacing it?

Often. If the boards and rails are sound, we replace or reset the posts that have moved and rehang the same sections. Pushing a post upright and packing soil around it does not last through the next winter.

Do you repair fences in winter?

Yes, as far as the ground allows. Boards, rails, panels, hinges and latches can be fixed in any month. A new post needs a hole below the frost, and when the ground is frozen hard we secure the fence first and set the post when it thaws.
