Vinyl fence gives an Akron back yard privacy without a staining job every few years. We set the posts deep enough for Summit County winters and size them for wind on open lots.
Vinyl is for the owner who wants a private yard and no painting. The color goes all the way through, so it does not peel, and the surface does not soak up water the way wood does. We install privacy, semi-privacy and picket styles in vinyl across Akron and the nearby towns.
The part people get wrong is the post. A vinyl post is a hollow sleeve, and it stands or falls with its footing. In Akron's clay a shallow footing is lifted by frost and the whole panel line goes out of level, which shows more on vinyl than on wood because the lines are so regular. We set vinyl posts below frost depth in concrete and stiffen gate posts.
A solid vinyl fence is a sail. On open ground in Ellet or on a hilltop lot in North Hill, wind load decides the post spacing and the depth. Vinyl also turns brittle in deep cold, so keep the snow blower chute and thrown ice away from it. Call (330) 521-3641 for a free on-site estimate.
Vinyl fences in Akron: common questions
Does vinyl crack in an Akron winter?
It can if it is hit hard when the temperature is far below freezing. A thrown chunk of ice or a sled can crack a panel. Normal weather does not harm it. A damaged panel can usually be swapped without touching the posts.
Can vinyl follow a sloped yard?
Yes, within limits. Many vinyl panels can be racked a certain amount to follow a grade. On a steeper yard the panels are stepped, and we fill or grade under each step if a dog is involved. We measure the slope at the estimate.
Does a vinyl fence turn green?
The shaded side can grow a film of algae in a damp summer, more so under trees. It washes off with a hose, a soft brush and mild soap. It does not harm the vinyl.
