Many Akron homes sit above the street with a flight or two of steps to the door. We fit aluminum railings to those steps and porches. They do not rust where salt gathers at the base.
Akron is a city of steps. Houses sit above the street on banked front yards, and there are often two flights between the sidewalk and the door. We install aluminum hand railings on porches, stoops, steps and decks, measured and cut to fit what you have.
Old iron railings on these steps rust from the bottom, where the post meets the concrete and salt collects all winter. In time the base goes and the rail wobbles just when someone leans on it. Aluminum does not rust and holds a powder-coated finish without repainting. We fix it to sound concrete or framing with the right anchors.
A rail has to be solid and at a height people can use. Railings and guards on a house are covered by the residential building code, so on a high porch or deck we follow the heights and spacing your building department applies. Send a photo of the steps to (330) 521-3641 for a first look.
Porch hand railings in Akron: common questions
Can a railing be mounted on old concrete steps?
Yes, if the concrete is sound where the posts go. Crumbling edges will not hold an anchor. We look at the steps first and tell you if a repair to the concrete is needed before a railing goes on.
Is aluminum railing sturdy enough to lean on?
Yes. A properly anchored aluminum railing is rigid. The anchoring matters more than the metal, which is why we check what is under each post.
Do you match the color of my house trim?
Aluminum railing comes in a set of standard powder-coat colors, with black, white and bronze the most common. We bring samples to the estimate.
